Brent Bates
L. Brent Bates moved to Kerrville in October of 1991, with his
wife, Margaret, and his baby daughter. He formed Bates Total Asset Management
and provided a comprehensive list of financial services including securities
brokerage, insurance, real estate brokerage and fee advisory services. His work
history in financial services dates back to 1982, when he worked as a
stockbroker for Merrill Lynch at the age of 24. Brent held numerous securities
and insurance licenses, along with professional designations such as Certified
Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, and Chartered Financial
Consultant.
In 2002, Mr. Bates purchased 10 acres on Water Street in Kerrville Texas to construct an office complex in which he could locate his financial planning and management practice. Being an Aggie, Brent wanted to develop 80,000 square feet of office space, when he only needed 4,000 square feet. He created an innovative way to "condo" professional office space in Kerrville that has been very successful. He soon realized that he enjoyed real estate development and enjoyed watching his vision become a current reality. In 2003, he divested himself of Bates Total Asset Management and began developing real estate full-time. His real estate experience dates back to 1985, when he received his real estate agent's license in Fort Worth, Texas. Brent dealt with Fort Worth's larger developers.
During 1990-91, Brent was director of development for a restaurant chain in Raleigh, North Carolina. During his tenure of two years he grew the chain from 5 to 20 restaurants for a 300% increase. While there he had a near death experience that caused him to return to Texas with it's good barbecue and great Mexican food. Brent's parents had retired to Fredericksburg in 1987 and Brent had always loved the Texas Hill country. While in Kerrville, he has participated in numerous sports as everything from President of the Kerrville Little League to Treasurer of the Hill Country Youth Soccer Association. He has been on the board of the Hill Country Youth Ranch, a home for abused children, for 14 years and previously held the position of Board President. Brent is also on the board of a local charter school. He is very active in Fredericksburg Bible Church.
Mr. Bates is an avid hunter, fishermen and outdoorsman. His daughters Effie --17 and Olivia -- 13, are both very active in athletics and are the recipients of numerous academic awards. He believes one of the best things about his daughters is that they inherited their mother's good looks.
